Brands in Co-optition
AutomotiveTechInfo.com is the culmination of 40+ years of content published by Automotive Data Media, for the automotive aftermarket professional repair technician. With content from 10 magazine titles, 7 vehicle brand-specific, I had the pleasure of combining all the individual website designs into one – AutomotiveTechInfo.com.
This project lended the challenge that none of the vehicle brands wanted to see their content on the same site as other brands. Because there is no direct competition, and majority of the readers worked on more than one brand, this project was approved with the caveat that each brand would maintain their own branded pages – fonts, colors, buttons, overall design, etc.
Branding
To launch ATI, we had to create a whole new brand design to act as an overhead, for the hub. This was an opportunity to build everything from the ground up – including a print magazine that printed once per year for the AAPEX tradeshow in Las Vegas.
Access
In some ways, the automotive aftermarket is stuck in the stone ages, compared to the rest of the digital world. In many cases, repair shops don’t even have a computer. That also means, they prefer their reading material printed…
We had to design a system that was simple in design with maximum value of content. Advertisements were limited to approved vendors, and quantity. Ease of readability was key. Making the site responsive and easy to access was key.
